Greg Walsh In Singapore, May 25th, 2010

Submitted by on Saturday, 15 May 2010No Comment

Greg Walsh is a piano/vocalist/songwriter based in Australia, who will be performing solo for one show only at Blujazz, 11 Bali Lane on Tuesday 25th May, 9 pm.

His style has a blues/rock/jazz flavor and he will be performing original songs from his recent album “A Busy Street” plus some of the great classic covers form the past.

Walsh’s music history spans several decades, many genres and music scenes. He has recorded two EPs in that time. He has moved from classical piano to rock bands to solo synth techno freak, to making a living from the soul/blues/pop piano bar environment where he dissected, analyzed and played some of the best songs written over the past century. Now he is reborn again, still on the piano but with more original music.

Influences include: Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Etta James, Jan Hammer, and Vince Jones to name a few. More recently influences have come from the New Orleans blues school, especially of the great piano players such as Dr. John and Professor Longhair.

Walsh has a unique warm voice and bluesy piano playing. Comparisons include: “sounds like Ali Campbell” (UB40), “sounds like Vince Jones“, “The White Ray Charles“.

“And he’s not just a fine piano player. Greg possesses an eclectic musical style, ranging from blues, to jazz, to soul and rock, and what’s even better is the fact that he owns an incredible voice.” – Australian Musician Magazine.

“The very special sound of Walsh’s voice makes it difficult to compare with other singers.” – rootstime.com.be

“Vocally he has a classic jazz range with smooth husky undertones” – Melodys Eye On Music.

In October 2008, he launched his 12 track all original music album “A Busy Street” at Dizzy’s Jazz Club with seven piece band.

It has songs with orchestrations ranging from full rich vocals, piano, drums, bass, guitar, Hammond organ, synths, violin, viola, and cello, to the more sparse sound of just vocals, piano and drums. There has been confirmed airplay of the album so far on at least 25 radio stations including some international ones.

Currently songs #1 “A Busy Street” and #2 “Do What You Say You’ll Do” are being aired in Australia on Foxtel’s Air Roots channel and Song #12 “Pool of Love” made it into the final six of the 2008 Nab Songwriting contest.
